New roadmap to utilise the use of more timber in construction announced by Government to improve the UK’s Sustainability promises

The government has unveiled a plan to boost the utilisation of timber in the construction sector, marking a crucial element of its strategy to achieve net-zero emissions and improve sustainability across the UK. The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has released a roadmap emphasising the increased incorporation of timber in the building of residential and commercial structures.

DEFRA highlights that incorporating timber into construction processes stands out as an effective means to curtail emissions originating from buildings. These emissions currently contribute to approximately 25% of the United Kingdom’s total greenhouse gas emissions, making the adoption of timber an essential component in the government’s efforts to address environmental concerns.
